Straight From Applause Theatre – Nerds Anonymous (8:00 PM)

Musical Theatre Presented by Applause Theatre – Meet Rocko and Dexter. Rocko is cooler than The Fonz! (at least in his own mind). His protégée, Dexter Poindexter, is not. Dexter’s proudest achievements centre around his yo-yo. What happens when this unlikely pair move into their new apartment to find it is already inhabited by a a trio of nerdy ladies? Well, your guess is as good as mine, but the words “Comedy” “Romance” and “Are you kidding me? – this is a disaster!” do come to mind. They’ve all paid rent, they’re all broke so they’re all stuck with each other. Can they really co-habitate for two whole months?? It’s a question only answered in Applause’s screwball comedy Nerds Anonymous. Featuring rock and roll music from the fifties and early sixties, this show takes you on a nostalgic trip back to the time when men were “cats” and women were “chicks” and both were more innocent than your 12 year old kids are today. It’s love, music and good clean fun rolled into one. It’s Nerds Anonymous!

CMJ Presents Jeffrey Straker - Festival Of Words Concert (8:30 PM)

The Saskatchewan-raised performer’s dynamic and infectious album “Step Right Up” is a carnival-esque collection of 14 boisterous tunes which paints vivid aural images with not only lyrical artistry but also Jeffery’s gloriously energetic prowess on the piano—and sharp sense of humour. The CD was produced by Justin Gray (Joss Stone, Jacksoul) and Oxyfication.net declares, “There’s so much energy and fun here the effect is almost psychedelic, like being drunk on a rainbow.” Recently the Chicago Free Press said: “Rufus Wainwright, as well as k.d. lang are among the Canadians making essential and beautiful music. Add the name Jeffery Straker to that list”. This uniquely talented performer is definitely making a name for himself.
